Having so much time on my hands is making me reconsider how I’m spending my time. During my practicum, I read the news every day on the bus, at my desk before class started, briefly at lunch, and after school if I wasn’t too busy. Keeping informed was necessary for a few reasons. Small talk with my colleagues typically consisted of chatting about the latest current events (I wonder what math teachers talk about…), I was always on the lookout for relevant issues I could discuss with my students, and it simply felt empowering to allocate time out of my day to keep updated on what’s going on in the world. Since coming home, I’ve abandoned my visits to CBC.com which seems pretty unfortunate.

During the summer, I typically make lists of things I want to accomplish - goals, books to read, places to visit, etc. This summer is no different. But, with career possibilities replacing the comforts of university classes, I feel like I should be focusing on getting into better lifestyle habits. To name a few, I should be keeping better updated on current events, reading more, writing more and maybe exercising a bit too. While I love watching Food Network all day long, I should be doing something a little more productive as well.

Booo back to real life =(

Things I learned in San Diego so far

Iced tea in the US means unsweetened tea that is iced.

Vons in the US is Safeway in disguise.

Sushi in San Diego is cheap and so good.

It’s possible for SeaWorld to lose supply of water.

Watching Property Virgins is just as fun in Calgary as it is in the US.

San Diego = Delicious Mexican food. Fish tacos!

I like airports, adventures, and smoothies.

Looks like I’ll be visiting both the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean this summer.

1 week

I might have learned more in the past 9 weeks than I have throughout the majority of my degree. Okay, that’s probably not true but I do feel like I’m a more capable teacher and adult after these 9 weeks. I guess it’s something about having to act like an adult all the time which some how turns you into one.

But, I am going to Disneyland/Legoland/Sea World/Universal Studios/San Diego Zoo pretty soon so I guess I’m not that much of an adult.

There’s not much I want to say about my degree except that it’s been more amazing than I could have ever imagined. My 18 year old, first year self never would have pictured that my life would end up this way in just four years. In short, it’s been good.

Just like the picture

My boyfriend is so talented =)

Apparently I’m at that point in life where I need to seriously consider how my choices will impact my future career. When did this happen?!

Spring break: One of the many reasons Education is the best faculty

It’s kind of sad that my blog has been neglected but my life hasn’t been that interesting lately. My life consists of getting up at 6am, running around all day at school (most days I’m lucky if I get more than 10min for lunch), come home, nap, throw something together for dinner, and then lesson plan till bed time.

Luckily it’s spring break and I’ll finally get more than 5 hours of sleep every night but I intend to make it a productive break. The to-do list: mark my stack of essays, lesson plan/unit plan for two classes, watch 2 documentaries which I might use for class, finish making my unit test, and figure out how to make Aboriginal history more interesting so that my grade 10’s will stop whining so much.

I also intend to get back to making good food. The past few weeks my lunches have consisted of microwave pot pies or pizza pops because I haven’t had time to make decent meals.

Tonight’s dinner of a whole roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes was a good start =)

And instead of posting a food picture, here is an overdue picture from my phone that I like. My apartment has greenery!

Just a thought

I realized today that I’ve been to 4 different continents. And yet, I feel like I’ve barely seen or experienced the world.
